The City from Southbank, oil on board, 311/23311/2in (80380cm).
‘London’s skyline has changed dramatically over the last decade or so. This is a favourite viewing spot, near Southwark Cathedral, at my favourite time of day, dusk. It is a good location to paint from as the line of towers and the bridge lead to the Palladian-style building on the lower left in a dynamic diagonal movement. To balance this I added the moon above. Dusk is a magical time; colour begins to change, as if it has a life of its own. Here the lights of the city try to compete with the light of the moon.’
