We are very fortunate in Britain that nowhere is more than a few hours’ drive from the sea. I am thrilled by the coastal experience – the changing tides, the light on the cliffs, misty atmospheres and glowing sunsets over the sea and watching the passing boats. I can think of nothing better than sitting on a clifftop, sketching. I visit Cornwall and Devon as often as I can, and I organise painting weeks in north Cornwall. We stay in converted farm buildings with an attached studio, close to the coastal path, and it’s perfect for gathering inspiration, sketching and painting this beautiful stretch of Cornish coast. I have come to know this bay and its rocks intimately, and can now paint it from memory in all weathers and light.
