The Beatles Years  |  Volume 3
Issue three of The Beatles Years focuses on the years 1966 to 1967, which respectively saw the release of Revolver and Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the albums regarded by many as The Beatles’ masterpieces. The issue opens with the mayhem of band’s final world tour and their decision to retire from live performance to focus on recording. We assess how they created ever more sublime music in the studio by constantly pushing creative and technological boundaries.
The issue also examines the impact of manager Brian Epstein’s death, The Beatles’ spiritual quest to India, the chaos of The Magical Mystery Tour TV film, the surreal animation of Yellow Submarine and the well-meaning yet thoroughly misguided business that was Apple Corp.
