We determined the overall ranking by incorporating the following criteria: the number of times a player was selected, the number of times the player was nominated in first place, and then the average position they were nominated in. For example: Hobbs came out top, despite being nominated slightly fewer times than Hutton (18 v 20) as he was nominated as the best batman more times (11 v 5). Sutcliffe was only nominated twice but benefited from a first-place nomination which moved him above a number of players who received more votes (Root, Barrington and May).
