What flower arranger doesn’t love autumn?
Such a special time of the year for creativity. As gardens
start to go over, the focus shifts to texture and the colour
palette to browns, yellows and gold. And there are so many
high days and holidays to celebrate with flowers, from
Harvest to Halloween.
This autumn, I think we’ll all be celebrating a bit more than
usual as the flower festivals, shows and events we’ve all
missed start anew. If you’re thinking of entering a show,
you’ll find plenty in this issue to inspire you from ideas for
fluffy florals to the innovative work of Toronto-based florist
Bruno Duarte and the whimsical designs of flower arrangers
from Northern Ireland whose artistry was sparked by their
beautiful surroundings at Riverdale Barn in County Armagh.
If you’re anything like me you’ll also be looking forward to
getting out for autumn walks along the sea shore. Keep an eye
out for driftwood and shells if you do and check out our
fabulous beachcomber designs from New Zealand on page 32.
Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to showcase on page 68 the first ever
The Flower Arranger Christmas cards. What a fantastic
way to treat your family and friends to flowers on the
mantlepiece this festive season. Buy now before they sell out.
