Professional bodies are organisations that are responsible for the interests of professionals in a particular industry, along with ensuring that they’re doing their job properly and providing a good quality service to the public.

For some professions it is compulsory to be part of a professional body to even work in the industry but this depends whether the profession requires a licence to practice or if a member is needed to be listed on a professional register. In some cases particular industry professionals are not required to be members of a professional body but instead they are required to be members of the regulatory body for that profession. This is because not all professional bodies are regulatory; this means that they provide services and support to their professional members but they don’t play a part in regulating the services that their members provide to the public.
