This month’s appointments

Citi announced a number of strategic hires to its Investor Services franchise in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Simon Kempton will join as EMEA head of Prime Finance and will be responsible for driving the growth of Citi’s Prime Finance platform throughout the region. He will report to Chris Cox, EMEA head of Investor Services and Adam Herrmann, who joined Citi from UBS earlier this year as global head of Prime Finance.Daniel Caplan will join as EMEA head of Investor Services Sales. In this role, he will be responsible for building and leading Citi’s regional sales and client executive strategy across the full spectrum of investor services products offered to Citi’s clients. He will report to Alan Pace, global head of Sales for Investor Services and Murray Roos who joined Citi earlier this year in the newly created role of Global Head of Sales for Equities and Prime Finance. “We are pleased to continue adding talented individuals of this caliber to the team,” Okan Pekin, global head of Investor Services said. “These hires reflect our commitment to building an industry-leading Investor Services franchise by continuously enhancing our ability to provide our clients with consistent, best-in-class solutions across products and geographies.” Kempton joins Citi from Deutsche Bank where he was head of International Prime Brokerage for the past nine years. He had previously been chief operating officer of Deutsche Bank’s Asset Management unit. Mr. Caplan brings more than 15 years of industry experience and was most recently Deutsche Bank’s European head of Global Prime Finance.

Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP (SRZ) announced the addition of attorney John J. Mahon as a partner in the Investment Management Group, resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Mahon joins SRZ from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. Mahon brings to SRZ experience in advising private equity firms and other financial sector participants in a wide range of capital markets and securities law matters. He has counseled on the establishment and operation of business development companies, registered closed-end funds and other similar public and private vehicles that comply with complex regulatory structures, such as the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Dodd-Frank Act. Mr. Mahon has been involved with more than 100 debt and equity offerings, including over 20 initial public offerings. “John is an excellent addition to the firm, as he is a highly respected specialist in the areas of business development companies and closed-end registered funds, two growth areas for our clients and alternative asset managers generally,” commented Stephanie R. Breslow, co-head of SRZ’s Investment Management Group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. “We are delighted to have John as part of our team. He enhances our capabilities in registered alternative investment products and specialty finance, and further deepens our bench,” said Steven J. Fredman, co-head of the Investment Management Group. “We are pleased to welcome John to SRZ, and we are confident he will make great contributions to the firm,” said Alan S. Waldenberg, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee and chair of the Tax Group. “SRZ is well-known for its roster of distinguished clients and its unparalleled investment management expertize. I am excited to work with such a talented group of lawyers,” said Mr. Mahon, who also serves as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University Law School. He holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.S.B.A., cum laude, from the University of Richmond.
