Before my degree I enjoyed playing the violin but I’d never taken classical playing as seriously as I ought to have done. Over the three years I studied at City, my teacher built up my technique and gave me the confidence and freedom to take advantage of the opportunities on offer in London. I was attracted to the university by the emphasis the course put on collaboration with other musicians working in styles and genres from all over the world. I experienced this mostly from a performance perspective, working together with composers on projects that we both had a part in.
I love the traditional repertoire but I’ve always had a need to keep creating new things, especially with other people. That feeling only got stronger during my time at university.
