Toy Soldier & Model Figure  |  241
Welcome to TS&MF, the world’s No. 1 magazine for collectors of all stripes! June 6, 2019, marks the 75th anniversary of the World War II Allied D-Day invasion of German-occupied France. Readers will notice how the historic milestone is commemorated in various fashions as this edition unfolds.
However, the main way the event is being memorialized is via contributor Stephen Dritz’s personalized and riveting account of his own U.S. Navy sailor grandfather’s wartime experiences. The Toy Soldier Museum’s James H. Hillestad draws from his pride in his Norwegian heritage and his passion for military miniatures to combine history and collecting in an article titled “The Vikings Are Com-ing!” “Tiger Hunt Fit for a King” is John Lord Booth II’s account of researching British King George V’s epic tiger hunt in Nepal in 1911 to re-create the royal event in miniature. Amazing artifacts from the writer’s collection help illustrate his chronicle of history and diorama construction.
Nick Breul shares his lifelong “Collector’s Story.” His wide-ranging interests include police figures due to his career in law enforcement. As usual, there’s lots more in store in this edition, so please start turning the pages, enjoy and, as always, happy collecting!
