MEET THE NEW SPARKLE TEAM
Thinking about 2016’s Sparkle Weekend evokes many emotions in me; mostly joyful, as, despite the rain, the world’s largest free transcelebration saw a record number of visitors. An increasing percentage of those were engaging with the gendervariant children’s charity, Mermaids in our Family Zone. Popular elements of the weekend such as the Sparkle Ball and the Mister and Miss Golden Sparkle pageants, were as warmly embraced as ever.

The End Of An Era
In November 2016 I attended one of the best weekends of the year at Rotherham in Yorkshire. It’s what I call a ‘tranny weekend’ but in fact it was the Beaumont Society’s Annual General Meeting organised by Janett Scott who has been doing this for 25 years. In addition to being the 25th anniversary of this event this year, it was also the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Beaumont Society itself. However, despite it being an absolutely brilliant weekend, it was tinged with sadness this time, because this was to be the final event of this type, as Janett was stepping down from doing any more.
