Fourteen years and several trips following our first foray into Africa, the time had come to think about how to focus on truly observing wildlife – without the need to stick to a timetable, nor risk being in a vehicle with a new visitor eager to tick off as many species as they could and move on. We love to linger. Sometimes the real gems are when you simply watch and wait and see what might happen. Meanwhile, I was starting to enjoy my camera more and we started to look at photographic tours. After all, weren’t all our safaris about photography?
As a result, we have recently returned from a safari with photographers Ann and Steve Toon. Staying in a combination of houseboat, bush camp and lodge, the trip took us to the Chobe River and into Chobe National Park itself, a combo that offers great photo opportunities, from a specially adapted boat and traditional game vehicle.
