Vegan in 5
Five top tips for going vegan followed by recipes that just require five ingredients – Roxy Pope and Ben Pook reveal all...
Be prepared
It can be tricky finding vegan snacks on the go. We often prepare homemade energy balls or take last night’s leftovers with us when we’re out and about, just in case we’re stranded when the hunger hits!
Be confident
We used to feel awkward eating out at restaurants, because we didn’t want to cause a fuss. But soon enough we found the confidence to ask for vegan options and we realised most places are more than happy to accommodate.
Simple swaps
Some people can turn vegan overnight, but for most of us it’s a gradual process. Start by making simple swaps like choosing plantbased milks, margarines and yoghurts, then experiment by ‘veganising’ your go-to meals.
Reach out
Don’t forget there’s a friendly community ready and waiting to offer you support. You’ll find recipes and information freely available online, as well as events all over the UK where you can meet like-minded people and learn more about the movement.
Have fun
At first we put lots of pressure on ourselves to be the ‘perfect vegans’. But nobody’s perfect, right? Going vegan should be fun, and you might slip up a couple of times along the way, but stick with it, enjoy it and you’ll never look back!
Apricot and rosemary nut roast
Long before we were vegan, we would insist on making a nut roast for a Sunday dinner, so we just knew we had to include one. The apricot and rosemary is such a winning combo, and we bet even the meat eaters will approve.
