On 2 September The Official Animal Rights March will return to London to stand up to animal oppression around the world. We spoke to Ed Winters, Surge co-founder, about what you should expect. He said: “Surge began in June 2016 because we felt that there needed to be an animal rights group in London targeting all forms of animal oppression. We strongly believe that there needs to be an end to animal exploitation. There is no need to use or abuse animals in 2017.
“The atmosphere last year was amazing. We had always wanted to make it a really bright and colourful event. The thing with veganism, and especially with vegan activism, is a lot of the time the events can become quite sad and melancholy. Obviously that’s understandable because what we are trying to explain to people is such a horrible situation. It’s really important to us that we subvert that idea and made the march bright, colourful and full of hope so that when people leave they feel inspired.
