You may have to dig a little deeper in the pockets of those pleated slacks, but trust us, the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender is the mother of all shindigs. It takes place from April 5th-8th 2012, and while they’re keeping tight-lipped about the main attraction, confirmed acts include original rockabilly stars Royce Porter, Billy Harlan, Lee Dresser, Mac Curtis and Don Woody, who share the bill with doowop legends the Calvanes, rockabilly revivalists Big Sandy & His Flyrite Boys and over 50 other bands and top rockabilly DJs. For guitar-lovers there’s Deke Dickerson’s Guitar Geek Festival in the Orleans Showroom, described by many punters as their favourite musical moment of the festival. And as if that wasn’t enough to get your teeth into, the entertainment in no way ends with the music.

For starters, there’s ‘the world’s finest car show’ held at the Orleans Hotel, featuring a convoy of over 700 gleaming automobiles and an audience of 20,000 revellers who’ll be feasting their eyes on an awesome line-up of gas-guzzling hot rods. Next up, the burlesque competition is one of the must-go events in the international calendar and features a cast of hopefuls who submit their photos and biogs onto the Viva Las Vegas website. The final eight beauties face each other in the grand finale.

No true ’50s weekender would be complete without one hell of a pool party, and Viva Las Vegas won’t disappoint. The Tiki Pool Party is a three-day blowout affording weekenders the chance to show off their retro swimwear poolside with thatched cabanas providing shade from the Nevada sun. There’ll be a swimsuit contest too, hosted by ‘Vegas’ Pocket Pinup’ Lisa Luxe, where both guys and dolls can pit their vintage beach attire against one another.
