Florence Kennedy
Florence says: Buttonholes are the sweetest little gestures, like miniature bouquets. They also celebrate the tiny offcuts and ‘forgotten’ flowers that might otherwise be considered filler or scraps. You can wire up small stemless elements (try delphinium petals and allium pips) into buttonholes or gather up dried grasses, side shoots, rosebuds and seedheads.
There are a few things to remember when you make a buttonhole. It’s going to be out of water all day, so the flowers you choose and how far in advance you make the buttonhole are really important. If I’m wiring buttonholes, I’ll do it as late as possible, but you can sit unwired buttonholes in a cup of shallow water if you want to make them in advance.
