It examines the reasons why some of us might not be as happy as we appear on the surface, then looks at how we can start moving towards healthier, more selfrespecting lives and relationships. And it issues a call-to-arms for society at large to do everything it can to protect and nurture young people, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Straight Jacket is a fascinating, oft en harrowing read but it’s ultimately uplift ing and life-affirming – and it might just be the most important book ever written about the gay experience. But it’s also ruffied a few feathers, as Todd told Winq the day aft er the book’s launch party.
