Tucked into the basement of the One Aldwych Hotel – one of the most important examples of Edwardian architecture in London – you’ll find chef Eneko Atxa’s new Basque-inspired venture. Atxa hails from Bilbao, Spain where his three-Michelin starred Azurmendi restaurant is no. 16 in the world. So when you descend the elegant brass staircase into the smart stone and carved-wood interior, expectations are high. Fortunately expectations are also largely met, with food like signature starter Memories of the Bay of Biscay, a trio of seafood tartars fragrant with salty mist, mouth-wateringly piquant roasted Iberico presa pork, and a traditional vanilla sponge soaked in spiced milk. Come Basque in one of London’s hottest new restaurants.
