ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

This season, orange wine is making a splash as everyone gets into a versatile tipple that adds extra punch to your white. We spoke to Douglas Wregg, the Director of Sales & Marketing of Les Caves de Pyrene, to find out more.

What is orange wine?

Orange is another name for wines made from socalled white grape varieties that are macerated on their skins during the winemaking process and made like red wines. They are closer to reds in style with colour, tannins and structure, the ability to age for a long time and are highly versatile in terms of matching to food. The idea is to capture and extract the maximum aromatic potential from the grape – 90% of the flavour of the grape is in the skins.
