Digital Subscriptions > Winq > Summer 2017 > A VIEW from BERLIN

Steve Partridge moved to Berlin on a whim and without a plan in 2012, having finally succumbed to London fatigue. He works in the city’s startup scene and writes freelance. He lives in East Berlin.

My local gay bar is called Große Freiheit, or Great Freedom in English. The greatness of the bar’s freedom is limited to men on most days of the week and only to the shirtless on Thursday evenings. Like a lot of Berlin’s gay bars, Große Freiheit sits unabashedly on a busy residential street, its rainbow flag blowing in the wind. Inside you’ll find nautical decor and a cruisy atmosphere. Walk through the smoky bar and you hit the dark room.

About Winq

The latest issue of the newly relaunched Winq magazine features an exclusive interview with Sherlock star Andrew Scott on his electrifying Hamlet and exploring his own inner darkness. There are also interviews with arist Grayson Perry and motorsport’s only gay racing driver, Danny Watts. We travel to Thailand and Rotterdam, get the background on the horrific abuse in Chechnya and ask if the pink pound can advance equality around the developing world. Packed with insightful commentary from a newly expanded panel of columnists, Winq is the journal for gay men by Attitude.
