In response to the millions of photos that are never more than digital files, there’s been a resurgence of interest in instant photography by those who want to have tangible keepsakes. Here’s the essential kit to get stuck in

What: HP Sprocket Where:

How much: £99

Part of instant photography’s appeal in the 21st century is that you don’t know exactly how your photo is going to come out. However, those of us who’ve dabbled with the medium will know that all too often images come out too dark, too light, too grainy, too blurry or just not quite how we were expecting – by which point the moment may have passed. The pocket-sized HP Sprocket is here to change all that, by allowing you to print vibrant, 2” by 3” photos on the move, straight from your smartphone (via Bluetooth). Photos are printed via an app, which can pull images from your camera roll, Instagram, Flickr or Facebook (or you can snap directly into the app), and you can add borders, coloured text and emojis to personalise your photos further. It prints onto inkfree, and therefore smudge-free, HP ZINK Photo Paper, and the backing can be peeled off each photo to turn it into a sticker. The Bluetooth capability means everyone can join in the fun, too.
