High stakes

Watch out for Winq favourite Layton Williams playing drag queen Angel, stealing the show with an astonishing dance routine that involves somersaulting off a platform in high heels”

Christmas can only mean one thing in theatreland – it’s panto season. And there are plenty of great shows playing up and down the UK, right through until early 2017. In London, Paul O’Grady, Julian Clary and Amanda Holden are camping it up in Cinderella at the Palladium, while Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke returns to the Hackney Empire to star in Sleeping Beauty. In Manchester, Cold Feet favourite John Thomson and Loose Women star Sherrie Hewson are appearing in Aladdin at the Opera House. And in Glasgow, Rab C Nesbitt actors Gregor Fisher, Tony Roper and Elaine MacKenzie-Ellis are offering their unique take on Cinderella. But if you don’t think shouting ‘He’s behind you!’ is camp enough, why not head to London fringe theatre Above the Stag to check out their adults-only, gay-themed panto? This year’s Beauty on the Piste is set in an Alpine village and features a young hero called Beau on a quest to find a handsome top. Judging from previous years’ pantos, he’s sure to have all kinds of X-rated adventures along the way.
