The Red Shoes by Matthew Bourne Touring the UK until 27th May 2017

After scoring another huge hit with his version of the Tchaikovsky classic Sleeping Beauty, the UK’s most popular choreographer is back with his take on The Red Shoes, the 1948 Powell and Pressburger film based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. Telling the story of a ballerina forced to choose between ambition and love, The Red Shoes stars Australian dancer Ashley Shaw as Victoria Page, and Bourne’s regular collaborator Lez Brotherston is back to design the set and costumes. The new show isn’t set to the music of the film but will bring together several pieces by golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann. It opens in Plymouth and then embarks on a mammoth UK tour that includes a Christmas residency at Sadler’s Wells in London and stretches well into 2017. The last stage version in 1993 may have been one of the biggest flops in Broadway history, but this new one is in safe hands – and feet. Expect to be dazzled. www.NEW-ADVENTURES.NET
