MY BABY made me psychotic

Kathryn Grant thought her new baby would be better off without her. But she wasn’t a bad mum... she was ill

It happened to me

This week, Coronation Street is hitting the headlines as new mum Sarah Louise Platt experiences terrifyingly dark thoughts. In the show, Sarah, played by actress Tina o’Brien, becomes convinced that her new baby is her ex-husband reincarnated. But while most people will see her psychotic episode as just another dramatic soap storyline, for me, it brings back terrifying memories…

I always imagined I’d be a mum one day. So after meeting Tom, who worked for the same bank as me, it was one of the first things we talked about. Luckily, he felt the same way, and after we married in May 2011, we started trying for a family.

It took a year but one morning, holding the test, I watched a second line appear – I was pregnant. From that moment on, Tom and I read parenting books, bought a cot for the nursery and did NCT classes, excitedly preparing for our baby’s arrival.

About Woman

KATE'S FEARS "I'LL NEVER LIVE UP TO DIANA" Next week sees the Duchess of Cambridge face one of her biggest challenges yet, as she’s set to host a charity gala for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, just a stone’s thrown from her home at Anmer Hall. The pressure is undoubtedly on for Kate to bring in big donations for the charity. But it’s a whole other set of expectations that is causing problems, as, yet again, her efforts will almost certainly be compared to the famous charitable endeavours of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. But palace insiders tell Woman that Kate, 34, is determined to shake off those unhelpful comparisons once and for all.
