Women & Golf Magazine

Mar/Apr 2020 Interview: British player Trish Johnson, a veteran of the women’s game, hasn’t lost her appetite for competitive golf and whilst she still intends to compete with the best on the Ladies European Tour, she would like to see more tournament opportunities for senior golfers, especially in the UK. Feature: Former Women’s British Open champion, Vivien Saunders, is distraught following the closure of her beloved Abbotsley Golf Club and Hotel in Cambridgeshire. Doors closed after greens were ruined by vandals and those called in to effect repairs made things worse. Sadly, Abbotsley is not the only club in the UK to have suffered at the hands of vandals. Naga Munchetty: The BBC news journalist and presenter champions playing mixed golf and shares her thoughts on forward-thinking Berkhamsted Golf Club opening up its prestigious amateur trophy to elite male and female golfers. The single-figure golfer is also making the most of her purple patch and 19th hole celebrations! Fashion: It might still be winter, but before too long you’ll be playing golf in the sunshine again. Take a look at the new spring/summer collections from the leading brands and the clothes that you’ll want to be wearing next season. Instruction: There is no need to panic if your ball lands in a bunker as Sophie Walker has some excellent tips to ensure you have the right technique that will give you confidence to blast the ball out of the sand every time. PLUS, if you struggle with using fairway woods, Samantha Head’s instruction will help you to sweep the ball to the flag. Events: There’s a full diary of Women & Golf events at Royal Porthcawl in Wales (19 May), Silvermere in Surrey (1 June), Goodwood in West Sussex (23 June) and Dundonald Links in Scotland (6 August). And after last year’s successful inaugural trip to Le Touquet in Northern France, W&G is off again between 12-14 October.
