REMEMBERING GABE GRUNEWALD
The talented runner and tireless fundraiser has died at just 32
Gabriele ‘Gabe’ Grunewald died in June, aged 32. She was a professional US middle-distance runner, and achieved considerable highlights during her career. She finished 4th at the 2012 USA Olympic Trials, and won a USA Championship title in the indoor 3000 metres in 2014. Her PB in the 1500 metres is 4:01.48, making her the 11th fastest runner in US history.
Gabe had been originally diagnosed with cancer in 2009. While undergoing treatment, she continued pushing herself in the running arena, proving herself a global inspiration in so doing. She set up the not for profit organisation Brave Like Gabe to raise funds and awareness for rare cancer research, and to empower cancer survivors to live active lives. As part of which, she set up an annual race, the Brave Like Gabe 5K.
