“Stop pinging me – thanks in advance!”
A study by Liuba Belkin of Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and researchers from Colorado State University has found a link between checking emails outside working hours and emotional exhaustion. Belkin questioned 297 people and found the expectation on employees to check emails outside working hours negatively impacted their emotional state. It wasn’t the amount of time that employees spent on work emails that caused exhaustion, but the expectation to answer them. Sound familiar? Set yourself an alarm to switch that phone off tonight!
