WRITE YOUR WAY INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS
This month we are launching a special competition that gives readers the chance to create characters for two men who played leading roles at a turning point in British history.
At Capel-le-Ferne, on the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover, stands the National Memorial to ‘The Few’, commemorating the Allied airmen who defied the German Luftwaffe in 1940. With invasion of Britain a distinct possibility, it was the aircrew of the Royal Air Force’s Fighter Command who were at the forefront of a national effort to resist Hitler’s plans, in what Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister, called ‘The Battle of Britain’.
