Desperate writing

Desperate Literature is a new international book shop in Madrid that sells used English books and a wide selection of books in European languages.

Interested in being a site for cultural exchange, Desperate Literature has launched a new literary award, the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize. The competition, which is for fiction under 2,000 words, has a first prize of €2,000, a week’s residency at the Civitella Foundation and a consultation with a US literary agent from Foundry Literary + Media. Two runners up will each get €250, and the winners will be published in 3:AM, Structo and A Women’s Thing. The winners and shortlisted writers will be published in a limited edition Risograph booklet.
