Poetry can rhyme, or in the case of free verse, no rhymes or only slant or half rhymes will be used. Confusion can arise between this style and that of blank verse which is also a style where rhyme is not used. This style is the poetic language of Shakespeare’s plays and to sum it up it is the structure used when poetry is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter.
You can also read blank verse in The Prelude by William Wordsworth as well Tennyson’s Ulysses. It became an interesting innovation during the mid 16th century.
