Small space hideaways to suit all budgets

Create a stylish sanctuary by thinking outside the box
Full of possibilities, this versatile and thermally-efficient Garden Pod is cool in summer and snug in winter, from £19,750, www.gardenhideouts.co.uk

Most of us need a private place to escape to, to unwind, indulge in a hobby or simply shut off from the rest of the world. This may be a shed, lodge or other retreat, either in the garden or in a separate location, and fortunately there are plenty of ways to create a compact getaway without breaking the bank. From re-purposing a caravan to building a nest in the trees, our ideas will inspire you to design a beautiful, bijou bolthole which might even earn its keep through rental income.

1 CABINS AND LODGES

Made of timber, these range from basic sheds and secluded shelters to luxurious log cabins where you can hunker down for a few days of splendid isolation. Self-assembly kits, sold in DIY sheds, are the most purse-friendly option, or you might prefer to commission a specialist company to design and install a bespoke garden building or log cabin. Another alternative – if you have more money to play with – is to invest in a lodge that you can use as a holiday home and rent out between stays. Some are part of purpose-built resorts with pools, restaurants, spas and other facilities, and services such as managing guest rentals.

About Your Home Magazine

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like we’ve turned a corner in April. The clocks have gone forward, so we’ve got longer, lighter days; the weather is getting warmer, so we can fling open the windows and let the fresh air in and the garden is bursting with colourful flowers beckoning us outside. And not forgetting, it’s Easter this month, which means we get a lovely long bank holiday weekend to look forward to (which is perfect for getting stuck into a spot of decorating)! So with all this on the horizon we’ve filled this issue with lots of exciting spring features. It’s time to ditch those furry throws and heavy winter curtains and lighten up your home’s look for the months ahead. On page 36 we take a look at the latest fabric trends and show how you can use them to give your home the ‘wow’ factor. While on page 42 we discover lots of great new products to take away your wash day blues. If you haven’t already noticed, green is the big colour trend for this year, so on page 20 we show how to give your home a gorgeous leafy green makeover with purse-friendly accessories. To celebrate Easter our Craft Editor, Sophie, has designed some adorable projects to brighten up your home – you’re going to love the cute little lambs (p.60)! And make sure you check out our quick and easy recipes on page 100, perfect for making your Easter family gettogether really special. Have a great month and a very happy Easter!
