Adding a concrete-effect flooring and a striped runner has given Sangita’s hallway a smart feel that will impress all her guests

When Sangita Patel moved into her four-bedroom house, in Gants Hill, Essex, with her husband Sunil and two children Arjun, 13, and Anjali, 11, decorating the hallway was the last thing on her mind. ‘We couldn’t believe the state of the entire house, but we were not put off by the challenge,’ Sangita explains. The previous owners hadn’t finished off the house decoration and it was totally lacking in character. ‘It looked like they had just started and then stopped work altogether,’ she says. Sangita had a lot to organise in the house but was pleased she could put her stamp on it. ‘I was excited to get stuck into the house renovations and get it ready for the new year,’ says Sangita. ‘The old space was a blank canvas but I could see it had potential. I loved the glass balustrade and the curving staircase but it was very plain and not at all welcoming.’ Sangita wanted to inject some personality into the space, but also desperately needed some great storage solutions.
