The couple’s bedroom, with its dramatic full-length window, bright pops of colour and clever mix of existing, modern and upcycled pieces is now a welcoming retreat, devoted to comfort and style
Finding the perfect family home is not always easy, so when Alison Newton and husband, Mark, spotted a three-bedroom 1980s house in their ideal location, they decided to take a gamble on the tired detached property. ‘With two children, Sam and Caitlin, it was actually too small for our needs, but we immediately spotted the potential to add an extra room above the attached single-storey garage,’ explains Alison. Of course, conjuring up a new room is never cheap and, although, the Newtons were lucky enough to be able to work with the existing foundations and easy access to their landing, Alison knew she’d have to get creative when it came to the interior.
