When Kate Watkins, 38, moved with husband Trev and children Rory, nine, Sam, seven, and Eddie, three, to their three-bedroom home in Beaconsfield in 2015, the whole house was decorated in a shabby chic country style. ‘Almost everything was painted a shade of cream and all the woodwork had been distressed. I’d just moved from an old cottage with this look so wanted something different. We didn’t have the budget to rip everything out and start again, so I looked at it as a challenge. I wanted to spend around £1,000 and was sure I could make it work,’ she smiles. ‘I used Pinterest to collate my ideas to see what things looked like before committing,’ she explains. ‘I could put all my ideas in one place and look at them together to see what would work. So when it came to starting the transformation I had made all my decisions and was confident it would hold together beautifully.’
