We had been inside the house many times and loved the feel

Sarah and Steve turned a friend’s property into their own home
A long bank of fitted cabinets uses the space effectively. The previous owner chose a purple work surface for a bright splash of colour

First hand knowledge of a property you are considering buying is rare. Luckily for Sarah and Steve Triandafillidis they knew the owner and had been inside on numerous occasions. ‘I am a good friend of the previous owner so I knew the house well, explains Sarah. ‘It has a great sociable feeling about the place which I very much like. It was also bigger than my previous home and the additional space was much needed.’ Sarah’s previous property was in the same village about 10 minutes away from her current home. ‘It was a two-bedroom link cottage with a south-facing garden,’ recalls Sarah. ‘It was a lovely welcoming home, which I renovated from top-to-bottom.’

Putting their own identity on this house was important to Sarah and Steve, as it was the first home they had bought together. ‘Moving in here, gave us both the opportunity to express our creative skills and designing the interior has been so enjoyable.’ From her first visit to her friend’s house, Sarah had a good feeling about it. ‘It’s light and airy,’ says Sarah. ‘And her arty touches gave it the finishing touch, I liked her originality.’ When the opportunity arose to purchase the property they didn’t hesitate, and Sarah and Steve moved into their new home in August 2012.
