Rachel Wilkinson, 41, bought her 1950s house with her husband Steff and two children, Alice, seven, and Joseph, three, in December 2015. ‘We’d only been able to view the house once or twice during the purchase, but when we finally got the keys my heart sunk,’ explains Rachel. ‘The bathroom was worse than I remembered – it was tiny with rotting tiles, useless plumbing and then I realised there was no space to fit a proper shower which is something I’d always wanted!’ The couple looked at several options, but the obvious one was to knock through to the redundant airing cupboard in their daughter’s bedroom to create a walk-in shower.
