We salvaged a new look for our family home

Liza and Adam’s extended home is packed full of quirky vintage finds and upcycled furniture
The original dining room has been turned into a living room that opens up to the dining area and kitchen. Flower Breeze wallpaper from Layla Faye on the chimney breast wall, with an assortment of mirrors collected from Liza’s television work, alongside an art gallery with a collection of photo frames from Oliver Bonas create a fine focal point

Liza Carmel’s love of industrial style and her talent for salvaging practical furnishings from recycled materials are undoubtedly what give her home its unique edge. But the story behind how she, and husband Adam Claret, bought their 1930s property is more of a happy coincidence. Having outgrown their terraced house a few roads away, Liza and Adam made an offer on this, much bigger, detached property. ‘The one thing I fell in love with as soon as we walked into the house was the hallway,’ remembers Liza. ‘It’s a room in itself as in so many 1930s-style properties, and it had such a lovely feel to it. Our offer was accepted right away but was then snatched away when the seller pulled out. We had sold our house and I was pregnant with Carter at the time. A few months later, the owner walked into Adam’s office enquiring about a house we were advertising. When she told us she didn’t have a buyer for her house we jumped at the chance.’
