Our house is made for sharing

Jo and Andy Weatherill had a sense of déjà vu when they bought a neglected Yorkshire farmhouse
The snug is Jo’s favourite room in the house. ‘it’s light and uplifting yet warm and cosy at the same time,’ she says. Jo created layers of soft cream with Farrow & ball’s biscuit paint on the walls, a cream sofa from barker and Stonehouse and a painted side table from bay Tree interiors. ‘i mix really modern things, like the stag’s head from notonthehighstreet, with more traditional furniture, like the leather sofa from next,’ says Jo.The crockery cupboard, displaying Jo’s collection, is from bentley design

Jo and Andy Weatherill felt completely at home from the moment they moved into their farmhouse near Harrogate. ‘It’s hardly surprising,’ says Jo. ‘We stayed here five years ago when it was run as a guest house, just to escape some building work at home. We loved it, but never imagined that one day we would be living here ourselves.’

However, Jo and Andy had always admired its location and often drove down the lane leading to the house to walk the dogs in the fields nearby. ‘We often said it must be a nice place to live, but the thought of buying the property had never crossed our minds,’ says Jo.

If you’re hoping to cut back on your energy bills over the coming months, then make sure you check out our round-up of the best eco buys for your kitchen on page 48, while in our home improvement section (p.106) we take a closer look at which eco-friendly updates will really help you cut your carbon footprint as well as your fuel bills.
