Fire at hotel stables SHORTLY after mid-day on Tuesday fire was discovered to have broken out in the harness room in connection with the stables of Mr Archd. Johnston, Royal Hotel.
Dense volumes of smoke were observed issuing from the premises, and precautionary steps were at once taken to save valuable plant by the removal from the adjoining garage of two motor cars and a hearse, which were taken out into the yard – a task not easy of accomplishment owing to the belching and suffocating smoke.
The alarm was immediately raised, and the town fire house, under the superintendence of Mr James M’Callum, firemaster, was promptly on the scene.
