Piping legend’s legacy lives on with KSPB

THE DAUGHTER of a legendary piper has presented a set of commemorative bagpipes on loan from Kintyre Piping Society to Kintyre Schools Novice Pipe Band.

Morag Martin handed over the pipes, complete with a special plaque honouring her father Willie McCallum, who was a founder of the Kintyre Piping Society (KPS), in 1951.

Willie passed away on the ‘best day of his life’ in Stornoway, last year, when his son, also Willie, was the overall runner-up in the Donald Macleod Memorial Competition.
