A WARTIME naval officer who helped train torpedo bomber crews in Kintyre has celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Ailsa Stewart, the mother of Argyll and Bute’s Lord Lieutenant, Patrick Stewart, court of session judge for Angus, and town solicitor Johnny is fiercely independent, drives her own car and thought nothing of standing in the rain for the duration of last month’s Remembrance service at the Esplanade war memorial.
