DEPOPULATION is unquestionably one of the biggest problems currently facing our region. The council’s Rural Resettlement Fund could be a welcome catalyst to boost the number of people, particularly young workers, coming into the area.
Local reaction may have been better, though, if the council had not announced the fund, especially through the national press, in such close proximity to announcing the date of the much maligned change to three-weekly bin collections.
It is only natural for people to wonder how the council can find this sum of money for prospective residents while cutting essential services like waste collection for those already living here.
