Summer – or at least spring – should have arrived by now, but at least our May issue is out, with the story of the 1925 ketch Hurrica V, soon to be a global superstar with the summer release of the new Great Gatsby movie. We also have the story (and never-before-seen-photos) of how the photo archive of Robin Knox-Johnston's 1960s voyage around the world was recently found. And, as if our weather weren't bad enough, we're on board a tiny James Caird replica in the Southern Ocean, with the crew of six who repeated Shackleton's impossible voyage of 1916.

Also in the May issue of CB…

Danegeld – A classic British post-war racing sloop; and we meet her designer, the forgotten but prolific David Cheverton
Yavari – The steamer than got to Lake Titicaca in pieces, over the Andes and on the backs of mules. Fitzcarraldo all over again!
Saleroom – What fetched what at the last auction of Polar exploration ephemera
Objects of Desire – Ocean liner deck chair, Norwegian wool jumper, stylish specs, an accordion and an oil lamp
Classics in Hobart – We're in Tasmania for the Australian Wooden Boat Festival
Gear – Atlantic clothing, a scrimshaw kit and more – including drink with our resident boozehound Guy
Caulking – With traditional chandler John Greenaway
Class Notes – It's the turn of the Leader dinghy this month
Yard News – A round up from boatyards and backyards in Britain and around the world
Recycling – What's going to happen to GRP boats when they die, then?
Boatman's Notes – Ripping boards and steaming ribs
Traditional Tool – This month, Robin Gates looks at the history and use of the hand screw
Antigua – We're with boatbuilding apprentices at Woodstock's Yard in Antigua
Adrian Morgan – The marks that boatbuilder's leave on their work
Sternpost – Owning a fast classic from the board of Nigel Irens

Plus…. The latest news, boats for sale, readers' letters and more
