~ 0 what's a classic car then?"
is a question I hear frequently
in this job but not usually from
my seven-year old daughter. To
be fair, she can be forgiven for
being confused since we were traveling at
the time in a 1991 Land Rover Discovery,
complete with the long-serving - and most
definitely classic - V8 under the front.
No, it's not a classic in the sense of
purely being old but it is a landmark
design and cleverly extended Land Rover's
range by recycling the underpinnings of
the classic Range Rover. The vehicle in
question is one we've just acquired after
a length search for an early Discovery
and Disco Stu as he's been nicknamed
(you need to watch The Simpsons for that
reference) comes complete with the full
light blue interior - blue carpets, blue dash,
blue steering wheel, blue gear-knob ... the
works. There's a diverting game of 'spot the
Austin Rover part' to keep you busy
in traffic jams too, with bits from Metro,
Maestro and even Sherpa thrown into the
mix.
