APPRENTICESHIP LOTTERY 'COULD KILL BUSINESSES'
Scotland’s sole in-house restoration firm has told Classic Car Weekly that it will go out of business unless funding to train new apprentices is forthcoming. The comments came from Graeme Johnstone, managing director of Perthshire-based Classic Restorations (Scotland), which wants to send local students to train on the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC)’s Heritage Engineering Apprenticeship at Bicester Heritage. Were the business based in England or Wales, Graeme could apply for funding via the Trailblazer apprenticeship scheme to fund the £8000-a-year course; however, differing rules between devolved governments mean that he would have to fund any apprentice himself.
