There’s a strange, snide antagonism towards one-hit wonders in the mainstream press, that I just don’t understand. Does a massive, epoch-defining moment in music become less valid if it didn’t turn out to be the start of a string of hit singles? Especially given the fact that such long-lasting strings of hits often confirm the law of diminishing returns?
