SPARKS – THE ISLAND YEARS

Don’t Sparks have a song about a vinyl junkie who one day decides to eat his collection only to end up being the shape and colour of his favourite picture disc? Probably. Anyway, here for Sparks-maniacs everywhere is a 5LP vinyl box set of the Mael brothers’ four Island studio albums – Kimono My House (1974), Propaganda (also ‘74), Indiscreet (1975) and Big Beat (1976) – plus a bonus LP, The Rest of Sparks, featuring B-sides and “other relevant audio” from the same period. In fact, most of the latter have never previously been available on vinyl album, while the tracks Looks Aren’t Everything and Intrusion/Confusion here make their vinyl debuts. All sleeves are faithfully recreated and Ron’n’Russ themselves have approved the artwork, while the records themselves are pressed on 180g vinyl: heavy-duty versions indeed of some of the most immortally witty and inventive music ever made in the name of pop.
