BRIAN ENO
TOP BOY
VERVE
★★★★
As long-time music aristocracy Brian Eno appears to have little in common with the Hackney of steely Duchane (Ashley Walters) and heavy-lidded Sully (Kano), his score to London’s answer to The Wire added a decisive, disquieting atmosphere. At times it’s ambient, but not as we know it: Overground is pretty, but Beauty And Danger is quietly menacing and little of this, least of all the main theme, is soothing. There are, nonetheless, echoes of Eno’s earlier work, such as Cutting Room I recalling aspects of Another Green World.
