It was supposed to be an escape north of the border. A flight away from CNN, the constant drum roll of political chatter, noise and more noise – a soothing trip away that would bring calm and rationality.
It barely mattered that we were at “war” with our Canadian allies, a trade-cum-currency war, tariff squabble, and all kinds of political demonizing. A place with recognizable dollars and a great exchange rate for Americans, Canada was meant to be my safe haven: a British Columbia holiday where the snow-capped Rockies and trendy, “fusion” restaurants were supposed to restore my spirits.
