The latest addition to Spitfire’s Symphonic series of sample-powered instruments is a compositional tool for the creation of “sophisticated-sounding kinetic passages, combinations of rhythms and playing techniques to elevate your scores”. A grid-based interface, apparently inspired by the famous EMS VCS3 synth pegboard matrix, used to assign rebowing movements, rhythms and other techniques to key ranges, triggering sampled performances by a 24-piece violin/cello ensemble; and ‘overlay’ techniques provide accenting and blending for “a more nuanced, dynamic sound”. That’ll be £199 to you.
