Dancing Times  |  January 2017
Happy New Year! In many respects, 2016 proved to be a tumultuous year in politics, both in the UK and across the world, and there is little sign at present that 2017 is going to be any different. We live through changing times, and those times will affect the dance community along with everyone else. In this month’s Talking Point column, Daniel Pratt, a young UK-born dancer currently working in the US, gives a view on the US presidential election, and how in that country the arts, specifically, were condescended to or barely mentioned in the wider political debate.
Elsewhere in this issue of Dancing Times, we look at dance training and education. Christina Gallea Roy travels to Monaco to find out about the success of the Princess Grace Academy; Zoë Anderson talks to Lynn Wallis, who stepped down as artistic director of the Royal Academy of Dance last month; David Mead discovers how Scottish Dance Theatre, now celebrating its 30th anniversary, was founded with a strong focus on education and the local community; and James Whitehead offers some tips on how to get to grips with dancing the waltz. All that, and much, much more.
